Description: Script to determine the temperature rise in a specimen due to beam effects (energy loss)based on Egerton's equation from R. F. Egerton et al., Micron, 35, 399, (2004). Solution of the equation is based on the first estimating the likely temperature rise by ignoring the radiative component. The full equation is then solved by Netwon's method, iterating to a minima by subtracting the estimated temperature divided by the derivative thereof (deltatemp) from the calculated temperature. Use the companion script "Average Energy Loss" to get this parameter from an EELS spectrum of your specimen. If you find any bugs or errors in this script please let Dave Mitchell know.
Comments: Quite a few parameters have no or little effect on the temperature rise - see Egerton's paper for details.
