Upload TEM lenses to STEM

Category: Microscope & GIF
Author:
Description: This script will upload a custom probe configuration saved from TEM mode (eg a CBED probe, in diffraction mode)to the microscope in STEM mode. This may be useful where the range of default STEM probes (S, M, L) is not satisfactory, or where you want to things like STEM EELS, with known diffraction conditions. Save the TEM configuration you wish to use with the Save Microscope Config script. Make sure you record all the lens and stigmator values (indicated on the comment prompt - Obj C, Obj F etc) on the comment line. These hex values will be displayed on your TEM screen which will be put in prtest m2 mode by the script. When you run this script select the configuration file, make sure the microscope is in STEM mode first. Lenses which the script can set it will do. However, because of lens offsets (don't ask why) the script will prompt you to set certain lenses to the values you recorded in the comments line, using the free lens control unit. Once the probe configuration is uploaded you may need to tweak focus and stigmation, and you should have a working probe with the diffraction conditions you set. Use a small condenser aperture for best results. When you have optimised your probe, you can save it again with the Save Microscope Config script, and subsequently restore it very easily with the Upload STEM Lenses to STEM script. The camera length of the diffraction conditions can be set with the Change Camera Length script (available soon). For more details contact the author.
Comments: Requires a working serial connection to the microscope. A configuration file saved from TEM mode using the Save Microscope Config file is also required. The microscope must be in STEM mode.
